Ballinamallard Under 12s played their first game in two weeks as they travelled to play Cookstown Youth in a friendly fixture.

The Mallards were down to a squad of thirteen players due to the transfer tests taking place in Enniskillen.

It was a sloppy start from the Mallards as the home side took the lead. A long ball caught out Toal and Smyth and the Cookstown forward pounced and fired home.

However, the Mallards reacted superbly. McGrath rampaged his way down the right and played the ball to Gallagher. The diminutive striker laid the ball off to Irvine who rocketed an effort into the top corner.

Only moments later, the away side took the lead. A series of superb passes saw the ball find its way to McGrath, who unleashed an astonishing effort into top corner of the goal from 30 yards out. A truly stunning effort from the hard-working centre forward.

The Mallards were playing some superb football and were moving the ball around with precision. Full backs Mahon and Kinnear were pushing forward and assisting their midfield teammates at any opportunity.

The third goal came via tremendous work by Holder and Browne. Browne pounced on the ball and rifled in with his left foot.

Just moments before the half time interval it was four. The Mallards midfield linked up superbly and Browne saw his shot diverted into the goal by the Cookstown centre half.

It was one of the best performances of the season so far from the Mallards, they were moving the ball quickly and played some scintillating football.

Although the Mallards only added one goal to their tally in the second half, they were very impressive as they retained possession well and defended resolutely.

The back five of Noble, Mahon, Smyth, Toal and Kinnear were in impressive form.

The fifth and final goal came from substitute Daire Bradley. Holder drove down the right hand side with pace and power. His exquisite pass found Bradley, who coolly rounded the keeper and slotted home.

It was an extremely useful exercise for the Mallards who face a tricky trip to Lisburn next weekend. The whole panel performed superbly against a tricky Cookstown outfit.
